Two - Level Flow Control for ABR Tra c in ATM Networks

In this paper, a new two-level ow control scheme using VP credit-based control and stop-and-go rate control for best eeort traac in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks is presented. The proposed ow control scheme can eeciently use the leftover bandwidth after the guaranteed traac has been satissed, thus achieving high band-width utilization. Further, cell loss can also be completely avoided. It is found that the average end-to-end delay of our proposed scheme is better than that of the original VCFC scheme 1]. In addition, there is also a tremendous saving in the memory requirement when compared with the VCFC scheme.
